The Learning Adventure of a Lifetime Awaits in Reggio Emilia

Dear Colleague,

What if you could spend five days in the birthplace of one of the world's most influential educational approaches, working alongside the visionary educators who've been demonstrating for over sixty years that children are capable, creative researchers deserving of our highest respect? Now imagine if learner-centered progressive traditions were supercharged by computation, robotics, and even AI.

The Language of Computation: Constructing Modern Knowledge in Reggio Emilia returns June 15-19, 2026, and early-bird registration is now open.

This isn't another conference. The Language of Computation: Constructing Modern Knowledge in Reggio Emilia is an immersive professional learning adventure that bridges timeless pedagogical wisdom with cutting-edge computational possibilities—relevant for educators across all grade levels and disciplines.

Why This Matters for Your Practice

Whether you teach kindergarten or calculus, lead a school, or guide learners in any subject area, this institute offers transformative insights. You'll engage in reciprocal learning with atelieristas, pedagogistas, and the renowned Constructing Modern Knowledge faculty, exploring how computational materials can serve children's natural curiosity while honoring the profound lessons of the Reggio Emilia Approach®.

The program challenges false dichotomies that often constrain our thinking: art versus science, individual versus community, screens versus active engagement, childhood versus competence. Through hands-on project development, you'll experience learning the way you aspire for your students—whether that's programming projects that blend geometry and design, exploring linguistic play with probabilistic thinking, or engaging with AI as a tool for knowledge co-construction.

What's Included in Your Experience

Your registration encompasses five full days of learning, including hands-on projects in Remida (the creative recycling center) and Scintillae, tours of the Loris Malaguzzi Centre ateliers, and the extraordinary "Atelier of Tastes" experience where you'll make fresh pasta alongside chefs who work with Reggio children. Two dinners and one pizza lunch are included, along with all materials, hardware, and software for workshops.

The medieval yet modern city of Reggio Emilia—birthplace of the slow food movement—reminds us that the best things require time and care. You'll break bread with educators from diverse contexts, engage in deep conversations about childhood and learning, and develop relationships that will inspire your practice for years to come.

This Institute Is Different

Unlike other Reggio study tours focused primarily on early childhood, this program welcomes educators of all disciplines and levels. The collaboration between Reggio Children, Fondazione Reggio Children, and Constructing Modern Knowledge creates a unique space where approximately 40 educators will explore emerging possibilities together. You will enjoy creative hands-on project experiences led by Reggio Emilian atelieristas and Constructing Modern Knowledge faculty.

Early-Bird Discount Now Available

Registration is currently discounted for early commitment. This special pricing won't last, and enrollment is intentionally limited to preserve the intimate, collaborative nature of the experience.

Whether you come alone or bring colleagues (we strongly recommend the latter—you'll continue learning together long after you return home), you'll find this institute meets you where you are professionally while expanding what you believe possible.

Hello Reader! Computer programming is the new liberal art Programming gives young people agency over an increasingly complex and technologically sophisticated world. Seymour Papert asked more than 50 years ago, “Does the computer program the child or the child program the computer?” Answering that question in favor of the child is critical now more than ever. Developing, possessing, and wielding such computational fluency is essential for participating in democracy and thriving in an...
