Hello Reader, "Reggio epitomizes for me an education that is effective and humane; its students undergo a sustained apprenticeship in humanity, one that may last a lifetime.." - Howard Gardner We are about to head across the pond to Reggio Emilia, Italy to lead "The Language of Computation – Constructing Modern Knowledge" next week. We couldn't be more excited about this new four-day learning adventure with educators gathering from eight nations - Manhattan to Melbourne! This new institute is the realization of a decades' long dream. If you have wondered why we've been sharing so much about the Reggio Emilia educational approach, these two articles may be of interest. "The Hundred Languages of Successful Educational Reform" by Howard Gardner (a former CMK speaker) explores reasons for the success of the widely acclaimed Reggio Emilia approach. In "Working for children so that they can enjoy their rights," Jerome Bruner connects the Reggio tradition of respect for children's rights with all human rights: "There are very many ways in which you can destroy human rights, and I think one of the main findings of the 20th century is that you can destroy the human rights of adults by failing to give them an adequate childhood." That's certainly true in the 21st century too... The combined PDF of the short essays by Gardner and Bruner may be found at https://reggio.constructingmodernknowledge.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/04/Gardner-and-Bruner-on-Reggio-Emilia.pdf A few other reading recommendations:
